4There the crickets fall silent under the noise of the waterfalls, and rings of trees stand about, kept always beautiful by their spray. 5The wind off the rivers and pools and springs carries the pollen of white and red and blue lotuses, and the turf is deep, so there is no scorching there for the creatures of the forest from summer heat or fire or the sun. 6Its pools go down past sounding, its sandbanks on every side are soft with the mud the waves bring up, and the rays of the fierce sun, cruel as poison, cannot take the sap from the ground or its green. 7The forest is in flower and beautiful, with bright animals and birds calling in it, peacocks and bees singing, cuckoos and cranes crying.
