The creatures in the shallow water met the heat that comes of the autumn sun, like a poor wretch with a family to keep who has not mastered his senses. Little by little the ground let go of its mud and the plants let go of their unripeness, as the steady let go of I and mine in the body and the rest, which are not the self. At the coming of autumn the sea went quiet, its water without a movement, like a sage who has left off reciting once he is fully settled in the self. The ploughmen held the water back in their fields with strong banks, as yogins hold knowledge that runs out through the breaths by holding those in.

The moon took from living beings the burning that the autumn sun's rays had made, as understanding takes away what is born of thinking oneself the body, and as Mukunda does for the women of Vraja. The sky was beautiful without cloud, with autumn's clear stars in it, like a mind joined to clarity, which sees the meaning of Brahman as word.
