While Rama and Kesava were living in Vraja like this, autumn came, without clouds, with clear water and no roughness in the wind. In autumn, as the lotuses came up, the waters returned to what they had been, like the minds of men who have fallen away and take up yoga again. Autumn took the cloud from the sky, the swarming of creatures, the mud from the earth and the dirt from the water, as devotion to Krsna takes what is inauspicious from those living out the stages of life. The clouds gave up everything they had and shone with a clean brightness, like sages who have let go of their wanting, quiet, with their faults gone.

In some places the mountains let their good water go and in some they did not, as those who know give out the nectar of knowledge in its time, or do not. The creatures in the shallows never noticed the water going down, as men with families, in their folly, do not notice life wearing away day by day.
