The moon shone in the sky with his disc unbroken and the crowds of stars about him, as Krsna, the lord of the Yadus, shines on earth with the circle of Vrsnis about him. Taking in the wind off the flowering woods, neither cold nor hot, people let go of their heat — but not the cowherd women, whose hearts Krsna had carried off. Cows and deer and birds and women came into their season in autumn, followed by their own males, as acts done for the Lord are followed by their fruits. The water flowers opened gladly when the sun rose, all but the one that opens at night, as the worlds are without fear under a king, all but the thieves, my king.

In the towns and villages, with offerings of the first grain and with great festivals for the senses, the earth was beautiful, rich with the ripened crop — and most of all by the two portions of Hari. Merchants and sages and kings and those who had finished their study, shut in by the rains, now went out and came to what they wanted, as the perfected come to their own bodies when the time arrives.
