Tell the wives that I have come, and Sankarsana with me. They will give you as much food as you want; they are tender, and their minds live in me. So they went, and seeing the wives sitting in the wives' hall, well adorned, the cowherds bowed to those true women of the twice-born and said this, humbly: Our salutation to you, wives of the brahmins. Hear what we say. We were sent here by Krsna, who is going about not far from this place. He has come a long way, grazing the cows with the cowherds and with Rama. He is hungry: let food be given to him and to those with him. Hearing that the Unfallen had come near — they who were always eager to see him and whose minds were carried off by talk of him — they were all in a flurry.

Taking food of four kinds and of many good things in vessels, they all ran out to the one they loved, as rivers run to the sea. Their husbands held them back, and their brothers, their kinsmen and their sons; but their hearts were fixed on the Bhagavan whose renown is highest, held there by what they had long been hearing.
