Seeing the cow-station struck senseless under the falling rain of stones, the Bhagavan, Hari, took it to be the work of an angry Indra. This rain out of season, savage, full of stones, and this great wind: because his sacrifice was stopped by us, Indra is raining down to destroy us. Against it I shall work a full remedy by my own yoga. I shall strike down that darkness, the drunkenness of wealth, in those who out of folly think themselves lords of the worlds. Gods who hold to what is true have no such conceit of lordship. For those who are not true, the breaking of their pride by me is what brings them quiet. So this cow-station, which has taken refuge in me, which has me for its lord and is mine to hold, I shall guard by the yoga that is my own. That is the vow I have taken up.

Saying this, Krsna took the hill Govardhana up in one hand and held it in play, as a child holds a mushroom.
