With Balarama he killed the ass-demon and his kinsmen, and made the palm wood safe, and full of ripe fruit. Having had the fierce Pralamba killed by the strong Balarama, he freed the animals of Vraja and the cowherds from the fire in the forest. He mastered the lord of snakes, the deadliest of the venomous, took the pride out of him and forced him from the pool, and made the water of the Yamuna free of poison. And this love for him, in all of us who live in Vraja, is not to be put down. Nanda, how is it that his own love for us is there too, born with him? What is a boy of seven years, and what is the holding up of a great hill? From that a doubt about your son is born in us, lord of Vraja.
