Hear what I say, cowherds, and let your doubt about the child go. This is what Garga once told me concerning this boy. He has had three colours, so it is said, taking bodies age after age: white, red, and yellow; and now he has come to be dark. Before this, your son was once born as Vasudeva's own. Those who know call the glorious one Vasudeva for that reason. Your son has many names, and many forms, matching his qualities and his deeds. I know them; other people do not. He will bring you what is good, this delight of the cowherds and of Gokula. Through him you will cross every hard place easily.
