Once, when there was a journey to the god, the cowherds were taken with eagerness for it, and they went in their carts yoked with bullocks to Ambika's wood. There they bathed in the Sarasvati and worshipped with offerings and with devotion the mighty god who is lord of the beasts, and the goddess Ambika, king. Cows, gold, cloth, honey and food made with honey they all gave to the brahmins with respect, saying: may the god be pleased with us. Nanda and Sunanda and the others, greatly favoured, took nothing but water, held to their vow, and stayed that night on the bank of the Sarasvati.
