Verse 40

³⁶He who moves inside the cowherd women and inside their husbands and inside every embodied being, the one who oversees them all, has taken a body here for play. ³⁷To show favour to living beings he has taken up a human body, and he takes up such plays as make a man who hears of them give himself over to him. ³⁸The men of Vraja bore Krsna no grudge; carried away by his maya, each of them thought his own wife was there at his side. ³⁹When the last watch of the night came round, the cowherd women, who are dear to the Bhagavan and had his leave, went home, though they did not want to go. ⁴⁰Whoever hears this play of Visnu with the women of Vraja with trust, or tells it, comes to the highest devotion to the Bhagavan, and, being steady, soon drives out desire, the sickness of the heart.
