The lord of the senses asked him, as he stood there bowed low, a person with a body that shone and a garland of gold about him: Who are you? You are lovely with a great splendour and a wonder to see. How were you brought, with no say in it, to that state men shun? I am a certain vidyadhara, and Sudarsana is the name I was known by. With my splendour and my wealth of good looks I used to travel the quarters in my flying chariot. Proud of my beauty, I laughed at the sages of Angiras' line, whose shape is ill made. Mocked by me, they brought me to that birth, and my own wrong did it. The curse those tender-hearted ones laid on me was laid only to favour me, since the world's teacher has touched me with his foot and my evil is struck away.
