Clarity, passion and darkness are the strands of your nature, and in them everything born of nature is strung, from Brahma down to the things that stand still. Homage be to you, whose looking is caught on nothing, the self of all and the witness of all thinking. This flow of the strands, made by unknowing, goes on in selves that are gods and men and beasts. Fire is your mouth, the earth your foot, the sun your eye, the sky your navel, the quarters your hearing; heaven is your head, the lords of the gods your arms, the oceans your belly; and the wind is set as your breath and your strength. The trees and plants are the hairs of your body, the clouds the hair of your head; the mountains are the bones and nails of the supreme one; night and day are your blinking; Prajapati is your organ, and the rain is held to be your seed.

In you, the Person whose self never wastes away, the worlds are set with their guardians, crowded with many living things, as creatures of the water stir in water, or gnats in an udumbara fruit: in you, who are made of mind. Whatever forms you take up here for the sake of play, by them the worlds have their grief wiped away, and they sing your fame in gladness.
