Nothing binds you· Verses 18–23

You two are the ground and the Person, the cause of the world and the stuff of it. Apart from you there is nothing at all, nothing higher and nothing other. Having entered by your own powers this world which you made out of yourself, you are met with in many ways, Brahman, in what is heard and in what is seen. For as earth and the rest show themselves in many ways in beings that move and do not move, in the wombs they come from, so you, who are alone and stand on yourself, shine in many ways in the wombs that come out of you. You make and break down and keep the world by your own powers, which are the strands of passion and darkness and clarity, and you are not bound by those strands or by their works. Where would there be a cause of bondage for you, whose self is knowing?

Since no limiting thing like a body has ever been fixed upon you, there is no birth for you in fact, and no division in the self. So there is no bondage for you, and no release either. If they seem to be, that is entirely our own want of discernment about you. Whenever this ancient way of the Veda, spoken by you for the good of the world, is blocked by bad men on the ways of the deniers, then you take up the strand of clarity.
