And Mukunda, his force unhurt, having crossed that sea of an enemy army, was showered with flowers and cheered by the thirty gods. The people of Mathura came out to meet him, their fever gone and their hearts glad, and his victory was sung by bards and heralds and men who chant praise. Conches and kettledrums sounded, and drums and trumpets by the score, lutes and flutes and tabors, as the lord came into the city: its roads watered, its people delighted, decked out with banners, ringing with the sound of the Veda, its arches bound with wreaths for the festival. The women covered him over with garlands and curds and unhusked grain and fresh shoots, and he was looked at with love by eyes wide open with delight.

The endless wealth that had come to hand in the fighting, and the ornaments of the heroes, all of it brought in, the lord handed over to the Yadu king.
