26For that happy occasion, king, Rukmini and Rama and Kesava, and Samba and Pradyumna and the others, went to the city of Bhojakata. 27When the wedding was over, the kings headed by the Kalinga, being full of themselves, said to Rukmi: Beat Bala at dice. 28This man knows nothing of dice, king, and yet the craving for them is strong in him. So urged, Rukmi called Bala over and played at dice with him. 29Rama laid down a stake there of a hundred, and of a thousand, and of ten thousand. Rukmi won it, and the Kalinga laughed aloud at Bala with his teeth showing; the bearer of the plough did not put up with that. 30Then Rukmi took up a stake of a hundred thousand, and Bala won that throw. But Rukmi took to cheating and said: I have won it.
31Stirred up with anger like the sea at the turn of the moon, glorious, his eyes red by birth and redder with rage, he laid down a stake of a hundred million. 32That too Rama won, and won it fairly. But Rukmi took to a trick and said: I have won it. Let the umpires here say so. 33Then a voice out of the sky said: The stake was won by Bala, and won by right. Rukmi is speaking a lie, and speaking it in words alone.
