The wretch broke down the trees at the settlements of the chief sages and fouled them with dung and urine, and their ritual fires with them. Puffed up, he threw men and women into the valleys and caves of the hills and closed them in with rocks, as a wasp closes in an insect. So, harrying the countryside and spoiling the women of good families, he heard a lovely singing and went to Mount Raivataka. There he saw Rama, lord of the Yadus, wearing a garland of lotuses, every limb of him worth looking at, in the middle of a crowd of women; singing, having drunk the wine, his eyes swimming with the drink, his body shining like an elephant in rut.
