1Narada, hearing that Naraka had been killed and that Krsna alone had married so many women, wanted to see it for himself. 2A wonder, this: with one body, at one time and in separate houses, one man took sixteen thousand women as his wives. 3Eager for that, the sage of the gods came to see Dvaraka, loud with flocks of birds and swarms of bees in its flowering gardens and groves, 4and loud with the calling of swans and cranes on its lakes, which were inlaid with open blue lotuses, day lotuses, and white and night and blue water lilies. 5It was furnished with nine hundred thousand mansions of crystal and silver, looking like great emeralds, their fittings made of gold and gems.
6It was lovely with its laid-out carriage roads and lanes, squares and shops, with halls and meeting houses and houses of the gods; its streets, courtyards, alleys and doorsteps were sprinkled with water, and flying flags and banners kept the sun off.
