23There too he saw Govinda, fondling his small sons; and then in another house he saw him setting about his bath. 24And offering into the spread fires, worshipping with the five sacrifices; in one place feeding brahmins, and in another eating what was left over. 25Somewhere sitting at the joining of day and night, muttering Brahman with his speech held in; in one place moving along the sword-paths with sword and shield. 26Somewhere the elder brother of Gada was riding out with horses and elephants and chariots; somewhere he lay on a couch while bards sang his praise. 27In one place he was taking counsel with his ministers, Uddhava and the others; somewhere he was at his play in the water, ringed about by women who were the first of the courtesans.
28Somewhere he was giving well-adorned cows to the foremost brahmins; somewhere listening to the old histories and the ancient books, and to auspicious words. 29Sometimes at home he laughed with his beloved over a laughing story; somewhere he was serving dharma, and somewhere wealth and desire.
