That evil-minded man, doing the friend's office he owed to those now out of sight, to Sisupala and to Salva and to Paundraka too, all of them gone to the other world, came into view alone and on foot, great king, furious, mace in hand, a man of great strength, making this earth shake under his two feet. Seeing him come on like that, Krsna quickly took up his mace, leapt down from the chariot, and stood against him as the shore stands against the sea. The king of Karusa, drunk with himself, raised his mace and said to Mukunda: What luck, what luck, that today you have come within my sight. Krsna, you are my mother's brother's son, but you have done my friends harm and now you mean to kill me. So, dull man, I will kill you with this mace that is like a thunderbolt.

Then, you who know nothing, I who love my friends will be clear of my debt to them, having killed an enemy who wears the shape of a kinsman, as one kills a disease that goes about in the body.
