19In place after place, king, the townspeople and the country people came up to him as he came, with the guest-water in their hands, as the planets come to the risen sun. 20The Anartas, the Dhanvas, the Kuru-Jangalas, the Kankas, the Matsyas, the Pancalas, the Kuntis, the Madhus, the Kekayas, the Kosalas and the Arnas, and others too, men and women, king, drank with their eyes that lotus face of his, whose glance was made soft with a generous smile. 21Giving them, whose darkened sight his own look had destroyed, safety and the seeing of what things are for, the teacher of the three worlds went slowly on to the Videhas, hearing his own fame sung by gods and by men, which whitens the ends of the quarters and kills what is not good.
22Hearing that the Unfallen had come, king, the townspeople and the country people went out to him gladly, with the offerings held in their hands. 23Seeing him whose renown is highest, their faces and their hearts opening with delight, they bowed with hands joined and held to their heads, and bowed to the sages of whom they had heard before.
