Srutadeva, when the Unfallen came to his house as he had come to Janaka's, bowed to the sages, and in his great gladness shook out his cloth and danced. Seating them on the straw mats and stools and cushions that had been brought, and greeting them with a welcome, he and his wife gladly washed their feet. With that water the greatly favoured man bathed himself and his house and his household, leaping with joy, having got everything he had ever wished for. With fruit, with offerings, with usira root, with the deathless water that makes clean, with fragrant earth, with tulasi and kusa grass and lotuses, he served them with such attendance as he could come by, and with food that makes clarity grow.

He turned it over in his mind: from where has this come to me, fallen into the blind well of a house, this meeting with Krsna, the dust of whose feet is the seat of every ford, and with these gods of the earth who are the home of his self? When they were well seated and the guest-rites were done, Srutadeva stood near them with his wife, his own people and his children, and spoke, touching their feet.
