19Then he of the matted hair, greatly full of pity, rose out of the fire, as we do and as fire does; and taking hold with his two arms, he held that man's arms back, and by that touch his shape was made whole again. 20And he said to him: Enough, dear one, enough. Ask of me. As you wish it, I shall give you your boon. I am pleased by water when men come to me. Ah, you have tormented yourself hard, and for nothing. 21The wicked one asked the god for a boon that would bring fear to all beings: on whosoever's head I lay my hand, let that one die. 22Hearing that, the revered Rudra, as though made unhappy, descendant of Bharata, said Om, and laughing gave it to him, as one gives nectar to a snake.
23To test that boon the demon began to lay his own hand on Sambhu's head; and Siva was afraid of what he had himself done. 24Set upon by him, terrified and trembling, he ran away as far as the ends of heaven and earth and the quarters, and went northward.
