On the bank of the Sarasvati, king, the sages sat at a session; and a question arose among them: which of the three lords is the great one? Wanting to know that, they sent Bhrgu, the son of Brahma, king, to find it out; and he went to Brahma's assembly. To test his clarity he made him no bow and no praise; and the revered one grew angry with him, blazing with his own heat. But the lord, the self-born, put down by his own self the anger that had risen in him against his own son, as fire is put out by water, which is born of its own source. Then he went to Kailasa. The god, the great lord, rose up gladly and made to take his brother in his arms.

He would not have it, saying: you go outside the path. The god grew angry, and with his eyes fierce he raised his trident and made to kill him. The goddess fell at his feet and calmed him with her words. Then Bhrgu went to Vaikuntha, where the god Janardana is.
