35Made to trust him in this way by Phalguna, scorcher of enemies, the brahmin went home glad, turning over in his mind the strength of Prtha's son. 36When the time for his wife to give birth came near, that best of the twice-born said to Arjuna in his distress: save my child, save it from death. 37He touched clean water, bowed to the great lord, called to mind the weapons of heaven, and took up Gandiva strung. 38He shut in the birth-house with arrows joined to many weapons; across it, above it and below it the son of Prtha made a cage of arrows. 39Then the son was born of the brahmin's wife, crying again and again; and at once he passed out of sight, body and all, through the air.
40Then the brahmin said to the conqueror, reviling him in Krsna's presence: see my foolishness, that I put my trust in the boasting of a eunuch. 41When Pradyumna could not save him, nor Aniruddha, nor Rama, nor Kesava, what other lord could keep him? 42Shame on Arjuna, whose word is false; shame on the bow of one who praises himself, who out of foolishness, ill-minded, wants to bring back one whom fate has taken.
