Verse 5

¹The husband of Sri lived happily in his own city, in Dvaraka, which was rich in wealth of every kind and frequented by the bulls of the Vrsnis; ²and by women in the finest dress, with the loveliness of new youth, playing with balls and the like on the terraces, bright as lightning; ³whose roads were always crowded with rutting elephants running with their must, with well-adorned soldiers, with horses and with chariots blazing with gold; ⁴rich in parks and pleasure-groves, sounding on every side with bees and birds settling in the rows of flowering trees. ⁵There he took his pleasure, the one beloved of sixteen thousand wives, taking that many strange forms, in their houses of great wealth.
