In clear waters made fragrant with the pollen of open lilies and white and night lotuses and blue lotuses, and among flocks of birds crying, he of great rising went down into the water and played in the ponds, embraced by the women, his body smeared with the saffron of their breasts, praised in song by gandharvas, while bards and heralds and singers gladly sounded the drum and the tabor and the kettledrum and the vina. The Unfallen, splashed by them as they laughed with their water-squirts, splashed them back and played, as the king of the yaksas plays with the yaksa women. They, their wet clothes laying open their thighs and their breasts, splashing him, the flowers shaken out of their great braids, embraced their beloved as though to snatch his squirt away, and shone with their faces bright with the smiles of desire that had risen in them.

But Krsna, the knot of his mass of curls shaken loose in the play, his garland caught in the saffron of their breasts, splashing again and again and splashed by the young women, took his pleasure as the lord of elephants does, ringed about by his cows. The playthings and the ornaments and the clothes Krsna gave to the players and the dancing women who live by their singing and playing, and his women gave the same.
