Svayambhuva Manu had a son called Priyavrata. His son was Agnidhra, and from him came Nabhi, and Rsabha is remembered as Nabhi's son. They call him a portion of Vasudeva, come down out of a wish to speak the dharma that leads to release. He had a hundred sons, and they went to the far shore of Brahman. The eldest of them was Bharata, given over wholly to Narayana. This wonderful land is known by his name, Bharata. He had taken the enjoyment this land gives; then he left it, went out, and served Hari by austerity, and in three births he came to that footing. Of the hundred, nine were lords of the nine islands lying round this one, and eighty-one were twice-born men who set out the workings of ritual action.

Nine of them became greatly favoured sages who tell the point of things, wanderers girt with the wind, at home in the knowledge of the self. Kavi, Hari, Antariksa, Prabuddha, Pippalayana, Avirhotra, then Drumila, Camasa, Karabhajana.
