In which age is that Bhagavan of what colour, and of what sort, and by what name and by what rule is he worshipped by men? Let that be told here. Krta, Treta, Dvapara and Kali: in these Kesava has different colours, different names and different forms, and is worshipped by different rules. In Krta he is white and four-armed, his hair matted, his clothing bark; he wears a black deerskin, a thread and a string of beads, and carries a staff and a water pot. Men then are at peace, without enmity, kindly and even, and they worship the god by austerity, by the stilling of the mind and by the holding of the senses. He is sung of as the Swan, the Fair-Winged, Vaikuntha, Dharma, lord of yoga, the stainless one, the Lord, the Person, the unmanifest, the supreme Self.
