Take what falls: the python· Verses 1–4

King, the pleasure that comes through the senses reaches embodied beings in heaven and in hell alike, coming of itself as pain comes. So a man who knows does not go looking for it. Tasty or tasteless, a large mouthful or a small one, let him swallow whatever falls to him of its own accord, doing nothing to get it, like the python. If no mouthful comes his way, let him lie for many days without food and without setting anything in motion, like the great snake that eats what is allotted. Carrying a body full of vigour, endurance and strength, he does no work with it. Lying down, yet not asleep, he makes no effort, though his senses are sound.
