Now suppose these doers of works, these tasters of pleasure and pain, are many and are everlasting, and so are the worlds, and time, and scripture, and the selves; and suppose you think the settled order of all beings is there from their very coming to be, and that the mind is born and divided by the difference of one shape from another. Even so, dear one, for all embodied beings, through their joining with a body and through the parts of time, the states that begin with birth come again and again. And even there the doer of the works is seen not to be his own master, nor the taster of pain and pleasure. What good can come to one who has no will of his own?

Embodied beings have no happiness in them, not even the learned; and the dull have no sorrow of their own either. Their high I-making is for nothing.
