Of the blessed I am Vasudeva; and among the Lord's own, I am you. Of the kimpurusas, Hanuman; of the vidyadharas, Sudarsana. Of jewels I am the ruby; of shapely things, the lotus bud. Of the kinds of darbha I am kusa; of oblations, the clear butter of cows. Of those who set to work I am the good fortune; of cheats, the laying hold of a trick. Of the patient I am patience; of those who have clarity, their clarity. Know me as the vigour and the endurance of the strong, and as the works of the Satvatas. Of the nine forms of the Satvatas I am the first form, the highest. Of the gandharvas and the apsarases I am Visvavasu and Purvacitti. Of the mountains I am their steadiness; and I am the bare smell of the earth.

And the highest taste of the waters; of the most blazing, the fire. Of sun and moon and stars, their shining; and I am sound, the highest thing of space. Of those who hold the brahmins dear I am Bali; of heroes I am Arjuna. I am the standing of beings, their coming to be, and their going back again. Going, speaking, letting go, taking hold; gladness, touch, the marking of a thing; tasting, hearing, smelling: I am the sense of all the senses.
