The same five, and the names laid on them· Verses 5–8

Earth, water, fire, wind and space are the five constituents of beings, from Brahma down to what does not move. They belong to the body, and they are joined with the self. By the Veda, names and forms are appointed among these constituents, Uddhava — unequal names among constituents that are the same — so that beings may come to their own good. For things whose being is place and time and the rest, best of the good, merit and fault are laid down as mine, to keep works within rule. Among lands, one where the black antelope does not range, and one where brahmins are not honoured, would be unclean; and so too one where it does range, if it is not Sauvira: Kikata, unhallowed ground, salt waste.
