9A time fit for work is a good time, whether from what it brings with it or of itself. The time from which work turns back is held to be a fault, a time in which nothing is done. 10The cleanness and uncleanness of a thing come about by another thing, and by a spoken word, and by a rite, and by time, and by its being large or small; 11and by power or the want of power, and by the understanding, and by plenty — according to what, in a given place and condition, works harm upon a man. 12For grain, wood, bone and thread, for juices, for things of metal and for hides, and for things made of earth, it comes by time, wind, fire, earth and water, singly or together.
13When a thing is smeared with what is foul, whatever takes away the smear and the smell of it, so that the thing comes back to its own nature — that much is held to be its cleansing. 14The cleansing of a person comes by bathing, giving, austerity, his stage of life, his strength, the rites done upon him and his works, and by remembering me. Clean, let the twice-born do his work. 15and by the full knowing of the formula, and by cleanness in the act, and by the giving of it over to me. Dharma is brought about by six things; wrongdoing is these turned round.
