31Because of it men come to be short of sight, small in fortune, big eaters, full of wanting, without money; and the women go where they please and keep no faith. 32The countries are overrun by bandits, the Vedas spoiled by false teaching, the kings eat their own people, and the twice-born live for the belly and the loins. 33Students keep no vows and are unclean; those who beg keep households; those who do austerity live in villages; and those who have laid everything down are wild after money. 34Short in body, great eaters, with many children, past all shame, the women speak bitterly and never stop, and are much given to theft and deceit and reckless daring.
35Small men, hucksters and cheats, will do their trade; and even when there is no distress on them they will think a livelihood men despise a good one. 36Servants will leave a master who has no money, though he is the best of all men; masters will leave a servant who has come to grief, though he has served the family for generations; and men will leave cows that give no milk. 37Leaving fathers, brothers, friends and kin, men in the Kali will keep their fondness for the bed, and hold their talk with a wife's sisters and brothers: poor creatures, ruled by their women. 38Sudras will take gifts, living off the dress of an ascetic; and men who know nothing of dharma will climb up onto the high seat and speak on dharma.
