In plain words

Rather than be kings who hold the parasol and cool this whole world, and with the blazing golden discus as their weapon crush enmity, there is joy indeed in this: to do the bidding of the devotees of the Lord of the Hall, whose long matted hair holds a garland of fresh golden koṉṟai, and to live here eating the alms received at the doorways.

Line by line

Holding the parasol, cooling all this world, with the blazing golden discus as weapon destroying enmity, than becoming kings, of fresh-gold koṉṟai the long matted hair that holds a garland, the Hall-dweller: to his devotees doing service, eating the alms received at the doorways and living here is joyful indeed.
