In plain words
O you of loving heart, kinder even than a mother to the steadfast noble ones who have gained what is to be gained! In the field of sacrifice the yogic ascetics, the great ploughmen, raised in their pride a great sugarcane called Muyalakaṉ. You put it into the press-mill called your beautiful foot and crushed it, while its ripe juice called blood flowed and the pearls called its teeth appeared in a mass. O wise one, who dissolved its inner hardness! O you whose very body is shared by the queen of women, with saffron on her breasts and lovely red carp eyes, so that she never leaves you! There the trumpet flower, the puṉṉai and the ilañci with opening petals, white camphor and musk that brings delight, all fragrances fitted in due measure, fill the water-booths that hold drinking water. There are food-houses that serve with kindness, to all great ascetics and to all the destitute, rich food like jasmine buds, with ghee-fragrant fried dishes, curries fragrant with seasoning, fresh white curd like the moonlight the moon gives, the fruit of the jack and lumps of sugar, all such provisions joined with right preparation. There are all the long dance halls where women of milk-sweet speech, with anklets on their small feet, practise the art of drama, the academies where the arts are learned, the halls that many frequent, and the long jewelled streets where the generous live, who hide nothing of what they have but gladly meet and give. O Śaṅkara, who love Kāzhi of great fame, shining as if it were the dwelling of the lady of the flower! Since you are the king of the worlds of lofty beauty, your labourer, the rich four-faced Brahmā, at your command, in the long field of plots called the world's sphere, enclosed by the strong great mountains as its embankment, sowed as seed the mingled mass of moving and unmoving beings, and set out trees, beasts, birds, humans and the rest as green crops, and stood by. The guardian on whose chest Lakṣmī dwells tended them richly. When the crop had fully ripened, to gain the yield desired, you had the sheaves cut and brought by the reapers, Death of true strength. Removing the straw that is the fleshly body, you took the heap of grain called the soul without end. You loaded it onto carts of three kinds: the body of the essence of the elements, the great body of the elements, and the body spoken of as the transformation of the elements. You stored it all in each of the places called the golden land, hell, and this earth. And among them, some few you gathered into the house of your holy feet. If one looks at that keenly, you seem to have renewed the faultless custom of the duty a king takes, one part in six. Therefore, O Great Lord of compassion, graciously speak forth the great ease, the bounty that you hold!
