In plain words
Blossoming with the freshness of a divine lotus, red as the petals of a new flower that never fades, adorned with anklet and hero's anklet so that they ring, it broke the power of Death. When tall Māl of the right-whorled conch, who would not worship, became a boar, entered the earth and dug with his might, it did not appear to him, and it rose far beyond him. Even if devotees in their devotion offer green leaves, it gives them mutti, stands before them and gives grace. So shines the holy foot on one side. Its sole is reddened, as though it had taken on the close-set tender shoots of the flawless kaṟpaka tree. It has the freshness of a thing dipped in ghee. It aches even when the anklet lies on it. It reddens when the many small flowers touch it, flowers let fall by the gentle wives of the gods as they bow. Cotton and the aṉiccam flower fall short beside it. With unfailing beauty shines the holy foot on one side. Spread over it and fastened is a garment of the skin of a tiger with dark spots and sword-sharp claws, and a poison-fanged snake is bound on as a girdle. So shines the holy waist on one side. A red garment, bright with light, is spread and worn over it, and a jewelled girdle that rings is put on all together. Such is the holy waist on one side. The red-eyed snake and the green-eyed tortoise, the boar's tusk and the hanging strands of bones, and the swaying thread are each worn in their place. Like a coral mountain that has put on white ash, the chest on one side shines with light. With bodice band and strands worn for beauty, with red sandal paste and patterns drawn in kuṅkumam, it has a breast like the unopened bud of a golden lotus, which bore the seven worlds and yet has not slackened. With that breast shines the chest on one side. Wearing sharp-mouthed snakes in place after place, holding firm the three-leafed spear, the axe with its flower-bright edge and the ḍamaru drum, the holy hand on one side excels. With close-set bracelets shining, holding golden play pebbles, a soft ball and a lovely gentle parrot, the holy hand on one side shines. With a heat in which the sun and fire are mingled shines the long holy eye on one side. With the beauty of the young deer, like a sapphire lying in milk, cool as the kuvaḷai of deep water and taking on its colour, pitying the burning sickness that has come upon people like us, the eye on one side protects the seven worlds. It wears the garland no one wears, strung of nocci flowers and green datura, koṉṟai buds and soft-clustered tumpai, the river Gaṅgā and a fresh-eyed skull, the snake and the moon, mingled and strung together. With glorious matted locks of shining form, as though twisted out of fire, it passed beyond the sight of the milk-white swan in which the four-faced one hid himself, and passed beyond even thought. The holy crown on one side has gone beyond the far heights. Gentle women of divine chastity, who worship, took golden flowers in the kaṟpaka grove and made a divine garland with their hands. It circles the dark tresses and rises above them, and bees and honey bees dig into it and revel. With such beauty shines the holy crown on one side. This is a sight of such a kind, hard even to conceive. The forms of the two sides become one. The eye on the right looks toward the left, and the portion of her with the bright brow grows shy. The holy hand on the right strokes and caresses the lovely breast on the left, and the hair of the body thrills. So you have borne the seven worlds, many times over. O one and only God, who took Marutu for your place, we praise your holy feet, we. Through long days we have died and been born, and we have grown weak. We praise them to gain a life in which we never, not even by forgetting, join the prison of the womb, and never enter it again.
