In plain words

In this cruel forest of silk-cotton trees there is no refuge for us to bow to but you, O hot sun, radiant light in which Ēkampaṉ abides. In the desert where she goes, soften your roaming rays, so that her tender feet may go as if treading on cool flowers and the pebbles may be cool, and show grace to her, your close companion.

Line by line

The cruel silk-cotton forest; other than you, no refuge we bow to; in which Ēkampaṉ abides, the radiant light, O hot one; as if cool flowers treading to go, and the pebbles to be cool, her tender feet, in the desert where she goes, your roaming rays soften, and show grace, to her, your close companion indeed.
