In plain words

In this pond in the Kanchi country of Ēkampaṉ, who has an eye of fire on his brow, the lovely nīlam, full of lasting petals, and the āmpal grow and bloom as if to say, “The dark eyes and red mouths of fair-browed women are like this.” And the vaḷḷai stands proud, as if to say, “All their ears are like me.”

Line by line

The dark eyes and red mouths of fair-browed women are like this, as if saying, growing, the lovely nīlam full of lasting petals and the āmpal bloom; the vaḷḷai, as if saying, all ears are its likeness, stands proud; of Ēkampaṉ, who has the eye of fire on his brow, in the Kanchi country, in this pond indeed.
