In plain words
That you wear the pure moon on your matted hair is the way you set it down: "I am the understanding that is the pure path." That you ride the bull that has taken the form of aṟaṉ is the way you enact: "I am the Lord." That you stand as it and she and he is the meaning by which you made known to everyone: "I am the state common to all." To be called the three-eyed one is a brief way of saying: "The sacrifice of the three fires is gathered in me." That you hold the fawn that is the Veda is the way you declare: "I am its lord." That you hold the trident of three blades on one shaft is the way you said: "The three, all of them, are I." To be called the one of eight forms is the way you made known: "I am the reality in this world." When they say "earth, water, fire, wind and the high sky," and "you whose ancient fame never wanes," and the meaning too of "you whose host is the good pūtam," this is the way you stand in the world and teach it, so that it may understand. Here, with these and more, colour and form proclaim your lofty greatness, and even so there are men who do not understand. They whirl about in the force of words and meanings born among men who destroy themselves. O Lord of Oṟṟiyūr, where for such men the foremost, the men of the six duties, chant without ceasing! You count what such men do among the doings of children, and you remain there smiling when they come face to face with you.
