In plain words
Though your greatness passes beyond all measure, you stay drawn in, never leaving my heart. Though you are the truth that has passed beyond the body, the whole world is called your form. Though you are in no one's grasp, you never withhold the excellence that those who love you long for. Though you are partner to no one in any way that has been told, you are the lord of the company of good souls. Though you are everywhere, you never draw near to those in whom deceit dwells. More than that: you are a birth that is never born, a greatness that never swells, a renouncer who never renounces, a continuance that never continues, an enjoying that never enjoys, a subtlety that is never subtle, a spreading that never spreads, a nearness that never comes near, a doing that never does, an excellence that never excels. You are hot, you are cool, you are lofty, you are slight. You are red, you are green, you are white, you are black. You make and you unmake. The many things that have come to be you remove and you gather; you leave them and you reach them. Your other qualities, countless and many, have the nature to bewilder each time one thinks of them. So, O Lord of Oṟṟiyūr, clothed in the surging sea, who are they who could speak of this here? Unless the state of speaking in words gives way, who on this wide earth knows your nature?
Line by line
Though you are of greatness beyond measure, not leaving my heart, you stand drawn in, indeed; though you are the truth that has passed beyond the body, the whole world is called your form indeed; though you are not in the power of any hand, of those who love, the excellence they desire, you do not withhold indeed; though you are partner to none in any manner told, the lord of the company of good lives is you indeed; though you are everywhere, deceit dwells in them: those you do not approach, you indeed; More than that: you are a birth unborn, a greatness unswelling, a renouncer who does not renounce, a continuance that does not continue, an enjoying that does not enjoy, a subtlety that is not subtle, a spreading that does not spread, a nearness that does not come near, a doing that does not do, an excellence that does not excel; you are hot, you are cool, you are lofty, you are slight, you are red, you are green, you are white, you are black; you make, you unmake; the many things that came to be you remove, you gather, you leave, you reach; the countless many qualities that are other since they are of a nature to bewilder each time one thinks, O Lord of Oṟṟiyūr, clothed in the surging sea, who are they who would speak this here? unless the state of words shrinks, who are those who know your nature on the wide earth?
