In plain words
A mother says, to a neighbour: Lady perfect in virtue, Kaṇṇaṉ, Nandagōpa's son, has done not one of the proper acts that those born into a noble family do, nor even one of the common ways of the world, alas. Will my daughter, her waist bending to either side, gasping for breath and wasting away, grip and pull the churning rope till her soft hands are scarred, I wonder?
