Droṇa
The great sage Bharadvāja was once walking at the place where the oblations are kept, when he saw Ghṛtācī, an apsaras, one of the dancers of heaven, who had just bathed. The wind lifted and carried away her garment, and his seed fell from him. The sage placed it in a vessel, a droṇa, and in the wise sage's vessel Droṇa was born. Droṇa learned all the Vedas and all the sciences that belong to them.
Bharadvāja had given the fire weapon to the sage Agniveśya, and Agniveśya in turn gave that great weapon to Droṇa, the son of Bharadvāja.
Bharadvāja had a friend, a king named Pṛṣata, whose son was Drupada. Every day Drupada came to the hermitage, and he and Droṇa played together and studied together there.
