The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Advaitānubhūtiḥ

Verse 39

In plain words

I am not the intellect — it keeps changing. I am not tamas, that dull darkness — it has no awareness of its own. I am not the body, the senses, any of that — they break, the way a clay pot breaks.

Close to the Sanskrit

I am not the intellect, because of its being subject to modification; I am not tamas, because of its insentience; I am not the body, the senses, and the rest, because of their perishability, like a pot and such things.
