The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Advaitānubhūtiḥ

Verse 60

In plain words

Empty the water out of a clay bowl and the sun that was shining in it seems to go out. In deep sleep, when the intellect dissolves, this Self seems to go out in just the same way — it only appears so.

Close to the Sanskrit

When the water standing in a clay bowl is destroyed, the sun situated in it appears as if destroyed; likewise, when the intellect dissolves in deep sleep, this one appears as if destroyed.
