The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 87

एवमात्मन्यविद्यातो देहाध्यासो हि जायते ।स एवात्मपरिज्ञानाल्लीयते च परात्मनि ॥ ८७ ॥

In plain words

This is how it happens: out of ignorance, the body gets laid over the Self, and the mistake is born. And that same mistake, once the Self is fully known, dissolves away into the supreme Self.

Close to the Sanskrit

Thus, in the Self, from ignorance, the superimposition of the body indeed arises; and that very one, through complete knowledge of the Self, dissolves in the supreme Self.
