The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Advaitapañcaratnam

Verse 2

In plain words

I am not this body. Not the senses, not the mind working behind them. Not the ego, not the breath and its currents, not the intellect. Wife, children, land, money — none of it reaches me. I am the witness, unchanging, the Self that faces inward. I am Śiva.

Close to the Sanskrit

I am not the body, not the senses, not the inner organ; not the ego-sense, not the group of vital breaths, not the intellect. Far from wife, children, land, wealth and the rest — the witness, eternal, the inward-facing Self, Śiva am I.
