अथाधिदैवतं ज्वलिष्याम्येवाहमित्यग्निर्दध्रे तप्स्याम्यहमित्यादित्यो भास्याम्यहमिति चन्द्रमा एवमन्या देवता यथादैवतं स यथैषां प्राणानां मध्यमः प्राण एवमेतासां देवतानां वायुम्लोंचन्ति ह्यन्या देवता न वायुः सैषानस्तमिता देवता यद्वायुः ॥ २२ ॥

Now follows the explanation from the perspective of the cosmic deities. Fire took the vow to burn, the sun to radiate heat, and the moon to shine, with each deity acting according to its nature. Just as the central prāṇa stands supreme among the bodily senses, so vāyu stands supreme among the cosmic deities. While all other deities set or merge, vāyu alone never sets.

Now concerning the cosmic deities: Fire vowed, 'I shall burn indeed'; the Sun, 'I shall heat'; the Moon, 'I shall shine'; and other deities accordingly. Just as among these vital breaths the middle prāṇa is supreme, so among these deities vāyu is the one. For other deities set, but vāyu does not. This deity, which is vāyu, is never-setting.
