हे मैत्रेयीति ज्येष्ठां भार्यामामन्त्रयामास ; आमन्त्र्य चोवाच ह— प्रव्रजिष्यन् पारिव्राज्यं करिष्यन् वै अरे मैत्रेयि अस्मात् स्थानात् गार्हस्थ्यात् अहम् अस्मि भवामि ।मैत्रेयि अनुजानीहि माम्; हन्त इच्छसि यदि, ते अनया कात्यायन्या अन्तम् करवाणि— इत्यादि व्याख्यातम् ॥
In plain words
He called out to his older wife: 'Maitreyī.' And having called her, he said: 'I am about to leave, Maitreyī — about to step into the wandering life, out of this household. Give me your consent. If you're willing, let me settle things between you and Kātyāyanī before I go' — and so on. This much was already explained earlier.
Close to the Sanskrit
He addressed his elder wife with 'O Maitreyī'; having addressed her, he said: 'I am, indeed, about to go forth, about to take up the wandering mendicant's life, O Maitreyī, from this station, from this householder's state. Maitreyī, give me your consent. Come, if you wish, let me make a settlement for you with this Kātyāyanī' — and so on — has been explained.
