सा एवमुक्ता उवाच मैत्रेयी— सर्वैयं पृथिवी वित्तेन पूर्णा स्यात्, नु किम् स्याम्, किमहं वित्तसाध्येन कर्मणा अमृता, आहो न स्यामिति ।नेति होवाच याज्ञवल्क्य इत्यादि समानमन्यत् ॥

Addressed like this, Maitreyī said: 'If this whole earth were mine, brimming with wealth — what would I gain? Could wealth-driven action make me immortal, or not?' 'No,' Yājñavalkya said — and the rest continues just as before.

She, thus addressed, Maitreyī, said: 'If this whole earth were filled full with wealth, what then would I become? Would I become immortal through action accomplished by means of wealth, or would I not?' 'No,' said Yājñavalkya — and so on, the rest is the same.
